Inside the App

The whole app is four screens.

Rent Tracker covers what a renter checks during the month: when rent is due, and what it costs as a share of income. The other two screens handle reminders and explain the words in a lease. You do not have to sit through a budgeting course to use any of it.

Rent Countdown

The first screen shows days left, the amount and the date. It turns amber three days before rent, flags a payment you have missed, and rolls over to the next month once you mark it paid.

Home screen

Budget Breakdown

Enter income, rent, utilities, transport, food and savings. The donut shows where the month goes and calls out rent as a percentage of what you earn.

30% rule

Payment Reminders

The app can remind you 5, 3 and 1 day before rent is due, early enough to move money between accounts. You decide during setup whether to switch reminders on.

Renter Basics

Security deposit, lease agreement, notice to vacate, renter's insurance. Every term a renter runs into gets a short explanation in plain language.

How It Works

Set up once, in about a minute.

Four short screens, then the app does the counting. You never connect a bank account, and there is no credit check.

01

Who you are

A first name for the home screen and an email for your reminders. Last name and phone number are optional.

02

What you pay

The monthly amount and the day it falls due, whether that is the 1st or the 15th. The app works out every date after that.

03

What you earn

This step has a Skip button. Add your income and you get the percentage; leave it out and the rest of the app still works.

04

How far ahead to warn you

Pick the reminders you want, 5, 3 or 1 day out. After that you can stop keeping the date in your head.

The 30% Rule

How much of your income does rent take?

The 30% rule says rent should not take more than 30% of your pre-tax income. It is a reference point rather than a verdict. The rule was written for gross income, it is close to unreachable in expensive cities, and it ignores whatever else you owe.

Coming Soon

The Rent Tracker app is almost here.

The first release for iPhone is in final testing. It opens on your countdown, remembers the months you have already paid, and turns rent into a percentage of your income. Setup takes about a minute and never touches your bank.

Why Renters Use It

Rent, without the mental arithmetic.

You stop missing the date

The countdown is the first thing you see, and the reminders land 5, 3 and 1 day ahead, while there is still time to move money.

Your rent-to-income share

One percentage, colored against the 30% rule, so you can answer "is my rent too much?" at a glance instead of building a spreadsheet.

No bank connection

The app never asks for banking credentials. You type in the handful of numbers it needs, and that is the whole setup.

Data kept on your device

The app keeps rent, income and payment history on the phone itself. We do not publish them and we do not sell them.

Works offline

Countdown, budget and glossary open without a signal, using the data already saved on the phone.

Free at launch

The first release costs nothing. There is no subscription and no trial that renews itself once you stop paying attention.

Early Testers

From the people already using it.

"My rent date used to live in three different places. Now it is one number on the home screen and I stop thinking about it."

Maren IlićEarly tester, Austin TX

"Seeing that rent was 38% of what I earn was uncomfortable, and it is the reason I finally started looking for a cheaper place."

Devon OkaforEarly tester, Portland OR

"The reminder three days out is the one that saves me. That is when I actually have time to move the money."

Questions

Before you download

When is the app available? +

Rent Tracker is in final testing now. Leave us a note and we will tell you the day it lands on the App Store.

Do I have to connect my bank account? +

No. The app never asks for banking credentials. You enter your rent, the day it is due, and your income if you want the percentage.

Where is my data stored? +

On your device. Rent, income and payment history stay inside the app. We do not publish them and we do not sell them.

My rent is due on the 31st. What happens in February? +

The app stores the day of the month, not a fixed date, so in a month that has no 29th, 30th or 31st the countdown falls back to the last day of that month.

What is the 30% rule? +

A long-standing guideline that rent should not exceed 30% of pre-tax income. It is a reference point rather than a target you must hit: expensive cities make it unrealistic, and it takes no account of your other debts.

Is the renter information legal advice? +

No. The glossary is general information adapted from public legal resources. Tenancy law differs from state to state, so for anything specific contact a local tenants' rights organization.
